20th Anniversary of IECSC Las Vegas

The 20th anniversary edition of the International Esthetics, Cosmetics and Spa Conference (IECSC) got underway Saturday June 18 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.  The show, which attracted over 19k attendees last year, is poised to surpass that number in this anniversary year.  Almost 450 exhibitors are showing a wide array of spa, medical spa and wellness-oriented products, equipment, and retail products.  The education program here is particularly strong, with approximately 200 classes offered, most of them free of charge, for both technicians and management to enjoy.  Free education tracks include courses in both Spa and Medical Spa Management, along with a multitude of manufacturer classes.  In addition, there are technical courses sponsored by CIDESCO International and ASTECC (American Spa Therapy Education Curriculum Council), well as 3-hour Advanced Education Workshops for spa managers and owners.

Highlights in the first day included a terrific presentation by Jamie Ginsberg of Cleveland Groove on “Using Social Media to Build Community and Increase Revenue,” Janet D’Angelo’s “Truth or Dare, New Rules of Engagement Marketing for Your Spa,” and a well-attended Advanced Management Workshop by Louis Mattassi, “10 Crucial Steps to Spa Profitability.” Jane Iredale and Clarisonic debuted new booth designs, and the show floor is replete with nano’s, peptides, and stem cell innovations.

The great thing about a show in Vegas is that afterwards you can have some great food and partake of the “retail therapy” available at every turn.  Las Vegas has become a hotbed for retailers and restaurateurs, who test some of their newest concepts here; last night I visited a store where everything they sell is made from bamboo, and saw a bar where everything, including the seats and tables, is made of ice, and the temperature is 20 degrees.  Part of your entry fee includes a warm coat and gloves, along with a drink to warm your insides, luckily!  Stop by tomorrow for more reports from this show, or check out the photos on our Facebook page.
